Of the great lakes of the world, Lake Winnipeg is
one of the most poorly
known with respect to the food web structure and its performance.
Moreover,
the lake is exposed to a diversity of environmental impacts such
as water
level manipulation, flooding, flow restriction, eutrophication,
contamination, and exotic species invasion. It is intended to bring
together
researchers and managers dealing with various aspects of food web
interactions, including fisheries, in Lake Winnipeg under a variety
of
anthropogenic stressors. The session is planned to develop an integrated,
ecosystemic and top-down view of its ecosystem health to facilitate
its
management and restoration.
