A Fellowship by the Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology, India was conferred on Dr. M. Munawar on November 22, 2008, during the 8th Indian Fisheries Forum, in Kolkata, India. The Fellowship was granted based on his scientific contributions by “furthering knowledge systems in service of the society to improve the quality of life of people”.
In addition, Dr. Munawar was awarded a plaque for organizing a symposium dealing with the “Freshwater fishes and fisheries of Indian rivers”. This symposium is part of a global project focussing on the Freshwater fishes and fisheries of the world: Biodiversity, health and habitat”. Resulting manuscripts from across the world are being published as a series in the journal: Aquatic Ecosystem Health & Management. This global initiative has been organized in collaboration with Drs. Nick Mandrak and Ken Minns.
